Moving to low carbohydrate diet doesn&#8217;t mean just giving up meat for pasta or egg fro morning bread. Below are 9 useful tips to make the changeover or shift from the usual high carb diet to a low carbohydrate diet.</p>
<p> 1. Count the carbohydrates. When you eat carbohydrate you must go in for complex ones like wholegrain breads and pasta, pulses and non-starchy vegetables and fruits.</p>
<p> 2. Go for foods that lower glucose response. Fruits and vegetables that have the lowest glycaemic index are apples, apricots, broccoli and asparagus.</p>
<p> 3. Avoid soft drinks. Soda, sweetened juices, aerated drinks are storehouses of low quality carbohydrates. You must stick to water when one feels thirsty.</p>
<p> 4. Stock up on low carb food. You must fill your fridge and kitchen with non-starchy foods, fruits, vegetables, fish, dairy products so that snack time is also easier.</p>
<p> 5. If you have to eat out, you must go to a restaurant that offers more than breads or pasta, seafood joint, for example.</p>
<p> 6. Read food labels. Food labels have to show the grams of carbohydrates each serving contains. You must read the food labels carefully and keep track of the carbohydrates in the various foods consumed.</p>
<p> 7. Nutty nuts. Peanuts and other nuts are full of mono-saturated fats and help contribute to weight loss and hearty health.</p>
<p> 8. Change cooking oils. You must choose mono-saturated oils like peanut oil, olive oil, canola oil for cooking and salad dressing. They are healthier for the heart.</p>
<p> 9. Stick to lean meats. Just because you are switching to a low carb diet you need not gorge on fatty meats. These have high levels of saturated fats (bad for the heart). You must opt for lean beef, pork, and poultry. You must remove the skin and any fat you can see.</p>
<p> No matter what diet you are on, you must exercise. It increases metabolism and flexibility, burns calories and strengthens muscles, improves circulation, and your mood. There are many more such benefits. The aim must be 30 minutes moderate exercise a day. Combined with a healthy, low carb diet, you can lose weight and stay healthy.</p>

<p> To start, forget about any fad weight loss diet that promises instant weight loss, and requires you to eat one specific category of food for extended periods of time. There&#8217;s no single type of food in existence that can provide you with the variety of necessary vitamins and minerals you need for healthy body function. Not only that, chances are you won&#8217;t be able to stick to a fad diet for very long. Diets that require you to eat only one kind of food soon become so boring that you&#8217;ll be back to your old eating habits in no time.</p>
<p> There&#8217;s only one kind of weight loss diet that health professionals recommend for safe weight loss. It doesn&#8217;t involve eating obscure foods, or only one type of food for an extended period of time. It&#8217;s the same diet you have been hearing about all your life. The only diet for proper weight loss is a nutritionally balanced diet.</p>
<p> A nutritionally balanced diet will contain enough vitamins and minerals to help your body function well, and enough carbohydrates, protein, and fat to meet your energy requirements. This diet is high in healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. </p>
<p> The best part of eating a balanced diet for weight loss is the added benefit these foods offer by making you feel full without adding significantly to your calorie intake. Fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain breads and cereals are all low in calories. They are also high in vitamins and minerals</p>
<p> So when trying to lose weight, be sure you don&#8217;t cut these healthy foods out of your diet. Just eat smaller portions of everything. To safely lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, you will need to reduce your total daily calorie intake by 500 to 1,000 calories. It is important to distribute the remaining calories into carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Your body needs all three!</p>
<p> Carbohydrates are your body&#8217;s primary source of energy, and are found in a wide range of foods that include whole grain breads, pasta, rice, and sweets. However, as far as the sweets go, they are high in calories but offer little, or no nutritional benefit. Leave them out of any weight loss diet. Be sure to meet your body&#8217;s carbohydrate requirements with foods that are nutritious. </p>
<p> Protein provides us with the necessary material for tissue repair, and growth. Protein can also be a source of energy for the body, but only as a last resort. Some foods that are high in protein would be meat, fish, legumes, and whole grains. Remember, that when it comes to meat, red meat is high in fat. Unless you enjoy extremely lean cuts, it might be best to minimize your intake of red meat while on a diet. You will be far better off sticking to fish, legumes, and whole grains.</p>
<p> Fat intake should be as little as possible when trying to lose weight, even though it is true that your body needs a certain amount of fat to function properly. Fat is available in a wide range of foods, but you should stick with the healthiest sources which will come from fish, nuts, seeds, and olive oil.</p>
<p> A solid weight loss diet will include foods from the different food groups that provide you with the highest amount of vitamins and minerals. To maximize the success of your weight loss diet you must add regular physical activity. If you follow a proper balance of diet and exercise, you&#8217;ll be well on your way to successful weight loss.</p>

<div class=KonaBody>   So you have high cholesterol and need to lower it? That is no surprise considering how many people have high cholesterol these days. To help lower your cholesterol, here are 10 tips you can get started with today.</p>
<p> As with anything health related, diet and exercise are the two crucial components. What you eat is critical to lowering your cholesterol levels, so that is what is included here.</p>
<p> One thing you should know is the difference between LDL and HDL cholesterol. Simply think of HDL as &#8220;healthy&#8221; and LDL as &#8220;lousy.&#8221; HDL can actually help carry cholesterol out of your blood vessels while LDL allows it to deposit inside your artery walls.</p>
<p> The good news is that you can change your cholesterol for the better. Here is how to do just that:</p>
<p> 1. Have a nice sandwich on whole wheat bread or a pita with some lean turkey and lots of fresh veggies. Skip the hot dogs, bologna, and salami, and hold the Mayo. All of those are highly processed and filled with fat and cholesterol.</p>
<p> 2. Fish, like salmon, is good. Look for wild red salmon varieties, which are very high in Omega-3 fatty acids (good fat.) Also, flax seed is a good source of Omega-3s.</p>
<p> 3. Avoid Trans fats! Not only do they raise the lousy LDL cholesterol, they can also lower your HDL levels! Stay away from foods like margarine, shortening, and processed foods containing partially hydrogenated soybean oil.</p>
<p> 4. Go ahead, go nuts! Look for walnuts mainly but also try almonds, macadamia nuts, cashews, and pecans. Nuts are high in fat, but it&#8217;s the good kind. (Also, use natural peanut butter instead of the normal kind which contains unhealthy Trans fats.)</p>
<p> 5. Limit desserts and try to eat only the healthier ones like angel food cake, graham crackers, Jell-O, and fat-free frozen yogurt.</p>
<p> 6. Eat foods that are high in fiber. Examples include whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruits, vegetables, beans, and some cereals. (Look for the boxes that say &#8220;may help lower cholesterol.&#8221;)</p>
<p> 7. Use the grill. If you&#8217;re going to have steak or burgers, grill them at home and use lean meat. This practice avoids the grease, is fun, and the meat tastes great.</p>
<p> 8. Find a new salad dressing. Most of them are full of Trans fats and cholesterol. Olive oil is good, and maybe add vinegar or lemon juice. Also, skip the bacon bits, croutons, and egg yolks.</p>
<p> 9. Go overboard on fruits and vegetables. They contain no cholesterol and they have lots of nutrients like antioxidants.</p>
<p> Here are some examples: green peas, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, oranges, mangos, papaya, pineapple, tomato, garlic, onions, spinach, water chestnuts, bananas, apricots, blueberries, and kiwi.</p>
<p> 10. Avoid fast food like french fries and anything else from the deep fryer. Those foods will raise your cholesterol like crazy, so stay away from the burger joints if you can.</p>
<p> 11. Bonus tip: Use spices like pepper and oregano to add flavor to your dishes. They are a healthy alternative to other toppings like Mayo.</p>
<p> That was easy, wasn&#8217;t it? Just make some of these changes and get plenty of exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, or playing basketball. You will have lower cholesterol in no time!</p></div>
